Solar Eclipse 2024

Eclipse Info

SATURDAY UPDATE: All camping is now being sold upon arrival to the campgrounds. Online sales have ended. If you arrive and need a campsite, check in with the camping attendant at the front of Lots 1 & 2 (notated by the purple star on the map). Porta-Kleen will have trucks on site Monday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM to fill and pump tanks. It is flag-down service.

THURSDAY UPDATE: The Super Stocks race scheduled for Sunday, April 7th has been canceled. Over 4.5 inches of rain fell on an already soft racing surface early this week. Cold temperatures and continued chances of precipitation the remainder of the week offer very little in the way of drying opportunities. Refunds will be issued within three business day on all advanced race tickets that were purchased for the April 7 race.

The next racing event at Eldora is set for April 27th with the finish of the 43rd Dirt Track World Championship.

All activities planned for Monday’s Solar Eclipse are still a GO and campgrounds will be open as scheduled this weekend for those holding camping reservations. Car parking lots open at 8:00 AM on Monday for those traveling in for the eclipse day. Parking is $10 per vehicle with free admission to the grandstand area. The eclipse will be shown live on the Eldora big screen, offering a close-up view of the sun as it gets covered by the moon. Totality begins at 3:08 for the Eldora area and a fireworks spectacular will take place at 3:10, during the back half of totality. (Fireworks will happen even if it’s cloudy!). Concessions and souvenir vendors will be open throughout the day.

A: Yes! We have a giant 65’ big screen inside the track and will have eclipse coverage playing during the day. This should provide a cool view since we can utilize the zoom on the cameras to give you a close-up look at the eclipse as it happens!

Q: Can you give more details on your fireworks plans?
A: Anyone that has attended a major Eldora event in the past knows that fireworks and pyro shows here are BIG. This will be no different! However, we also understand there is a delicate balance with not interfering with anyone’s ability to enjoy the eclipse. With that being said, here are the plans:

  • The eclipse will take place at approximately 217 degrees with an altitude of 51 degrees; so if on Eldora property, you’ll be positioned towards the southwest.
  • The fireworks will be shot from Eldora Village, which will keep them in the same general sight line as the eclipse. The fireworks will explode underneath the sun and moon.
  • Eldora will be in totality for 3 minutes and 59 seconds. At exactly 2 minutes into that totality period, the fireworks spectacular will begin. It will conclude as totality ends and the sun begins showing itself again behind the moon.
    • Eclipse begins – 1:53:34 PM
    • Corona appears – 3:08:20 PM
    • Totality begins – 3:08:40 PM
    • Exactly halfway through totality – 3:10:40 PM
    • Fireworks begin – 3:10:41 PM
    • Totality ends – 3:12:39 PM
    • Corona fades- 3:12:59 PM
    • Fireworks show ends – 3:13:39 PM
    • Eclipse ends – 4:25:17 PM
  • When inside the facility, the best seating areas to view the event will be bleacher sections NA-NO (turns three and four). Additionally, bleacher sections SJ-SR (turn two) should provide quality viewing opportunities to see both fireworks and eclipse.

Q: What happens to the fireworks if its cloudy or raining?
A: Fireworks WILL happen even its cloudy! Fireworks will NOT happen if it’s rainy.
